Gulu City Inspector of Schools Phiona Atim has been arrested over the missing Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results of 103 candidates.

According to Aswa West Police region spokesperson David Mudong Ongom, Atim was reportedly arrested on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, over the missing UCE results of Pope Francis Secondary School in Pece-Laroo division, Gulu City, which she owns.

Her arrest followed the affected candidates and their parents petitioning the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) and the City Education Officer, among others, during a meeting on the same day in the RCC’s boardroom.

During the meeting, Gulu RCC Jane Francese Okili asked Atim to explain the circumstances leading to the withholding of the candidates’ results by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), something she failed to satisfactorily do, prompting the order for her arrest by Okili.

UNEB released the results on Thursday, February 15, 2024,

According to Mudong, Atim recorded a statement of missing candidates’ results of centre number U3583, vibe GEF 004/2024, at Gulu East Division Police Station.

Okili asked city education officer Richard Irwenyo to go to UNEB headquarters in Kampala to find out why the candidates’ results were withheld.

On Monday, the affected candidates and their parents stormed the school demanding the release of the results.
