The Police have in separate incidents arrested two mothers over the murder of their daughters.

Kampala Metropolitan Police East Region is holding Resty Nakate, a 22-year-old mother, for the alleged fatal beating to death of her 14-month-old daughter, Sonia Nalwoga, in Kabanga village, Mukono district.

Meanwhile, in the West Nile Region, Jesca Alony, 22, faces charges of torturing and murdering her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Nakito Ayona, in Bango village, Koboko district.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday, February 26, 2024, said the two distressing cases of maternal violence have gripped communities, as authorities grapple with the alleged murders of innocent young daughters by their mothers.

He said during the joint weekly media briefing at Police headquarters, Naguru in Kampala, that Nakate, a peasant and mother, is suspected of having murdered her daughter, Nalwoga on February 19, 2024.

Nakate reportedly rushed her injured daughter to Kabanga Health Centre III, where the child was declared dead upon arrival. Subsequently, authorities were alerted and Nakate was apprehended.

Explaining Alony’s incident, Enanga said she tortured her daughter by starvation, ultimately resulting in the child's death on February 23, 2024, in Bango village, Midia sub-county, Koboko district.

Alony allegedly quarreled with Kiguli Twaha, the father of the victim, on February 21, 2024, over allegations of neglect and starvation of Nakito.

In a fit of rage, Alony purportedly began beating her daughter, prompting intervention from concerned neighbours.

On February 22, 2024, Alony disappeared with the child to an undisclosed location, only to return the following day with Ayona's lifeless body.

Law enforcement authorities intervened to rescue Alony from an enraged mob and the victim's body was transferred to Koboko Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
