“I can’t tell exactly what happened because the team made some silly mistakes especially when we came back in that third quarter,” he explained.

Vitality Netball Nations Cup

Australia 63 Uganda 49

England 58 New Zealand 57

The She Cranes were defeated in the third-place play-off by the Silver Ferns of New Zealand on the final day of the Vitality Netball Nations Cup in England.

Australia was on hand to win it all with a 69-49 humbling of the hosts in the final that happened after Uganda’s match.

Another loss for the She Cranes was however another chance for coach Fred Mugerwa to see what his team was capable of against the Silver Ferns.

The team once again pushed the southern hemisphere team to the brink and even went into half-time level at 30-30.

The third quarter proved to be the She Cranes’ undoing which cost them in a big way against the bigger teams.

“I can’t tell exactly what happened because the team made some silly mistakes especially when we came back in that third quarter,” he explained.

Above all else, the girls have fought hard and left it all on the court which bodes well for the future of the team.

“For me, the trip has been successful because we were able to play seven games. Although our wins are fewer than expected because we lost one match in Wales, winning one, and here, we have lost all our four matches, but I think the girls played well.

We have to keep in mind that we are playing teams that are ranked number one, two, and three. We are seven and I think we played very well even though we didn’t go back with a medal at the end of the Nations Cup,” explained Mugerwa.
