Police hunt for truck driver who knocked dead two cyclists

Police on Sunday, January 28, 2024, said they were hunting for a Fuso Truck driver who lost his breaks and rammed into motorcycles and pedestrians at Kawaala Junction in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality in Wakiso District, killing two and injuring eight others.

Michael Kananura the Spokesperson of the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate said the accident took place at around 12:40 pm and involved a motor vehicle registration number UAQ 539E Mitsubishi Fuso, which lost its brakes and rammed into motorcycles registration number UFS 111, UEP 598K, UFU 872P all Bajaj Boxers and pedestrians.

“According to the preliminary reports, the driver of the said motor vehicle while at Kawaala Junction from Kazo slopping facing the junction, failed to break and rammed into the said motorcycles and pedestrians killing instantly 02 people, one a passenger on one of the motorcycles and a rider, injuring 08 others who included pedestrians, riders, and passengers on motorcycles,” Kananura said.

He said the injured had been rushed to Mulago for treatment, “Bodies have been conveyed to Mulago mortuary for postmortem. Both motor vehicle and motorcycles have been towed to Nabweru police Station pending inspection and investigation into the cause are underway,” he said.
