Outgoing United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident representative for Uganda Elsie Attafuah has called for the establishment of organic food trade relations between Uganda and Ghana.

During her Wednesday tour of St Balikudembe Market aka Owino in Kampala, which included witnessing transformative projects and commissioning a new electricity powerhouse, Attafuah emphasized the need for vendors to capitalise on the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA) as a crucial avenue for Uganda and Africa's development.

"I'm from Ghana and we need sweet potatoes and vegetables. They are plenty in Uganda. When I am going back home, I pack carrots, cauliflower, and sweet potatoes in my suitcase. We can begin trade between ourselves because we have the market. I cannot continue carrying vegetables in my suitcase," explained Attafuah.

Highlighting the potential, she envisioned Owino Market reaching Accra and extending trade across Africa.

Attafuah urged traders to co-ordinate efforts, engage with Uganda Airlines and propose transporting a plane filled with vegetables to Accra and other African nations, asserting, "Such trade will bring us the development we desire."
