Flags are virtually waving at half-mast within the Ugandan tourism fraternity, mourning the sudden departure of Rob Davies, the visionary force behind quad biking. This venture added zest to Jinja as East Africa’s adventure city.

"Before his untimely demise at Case Clinic on Friday (January 19), Davies elevated Busoga to such popularity that any traveller in Uganda who hadn't experienced it considered their trip incomplete," reminisced James Mwere, spokesperson for the Uganda Tour Guides Forum.

"His name remains synonymous with adventure products, having recently taken over Bangi Jumping and successfully rebranded it to Nile Bungee Jumping, departing from the Adrift trademark."

Simplicious Gessa, the Uganda Tourism Board spokesperson, acknowledged that Davies' passing is a significant blow to the Jinja adventure package.

"Beyond the business, he was a people person who made his clients feel at home, enabling them to appreciate the Busoga terrain, culture, food, and rural lifestyle on the bikes that took mere minutes for one to master their navigation," laments Gessa.

"Domestic and foreign tourists alike cherished quad biking, often returning and bringing along peers."

Davies leaves a lasting legacy in the adventure tourism sector, and his contributions will be dearly missed by the community he served and the tourists he enthralled.

Service will be at his home in Bujagali and burial at Njeru Kafuka at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024.
