Katanga murder: Court issues arrest warrant against daughter

The arrest warrant against Nkwanzi was issued on Monday (January 8, 2024) by Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza at the request of Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The prosecution alleges that on November 2, 2023, at Mbuya Chwa II Road, Nakawa Division with malice aforethought, Molly caused the death of Katanga.

The Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant against Martha Nkwanzi, a daughter of the deceased businessman Henry Katanga to answer charges of destroying evidence in his alleged murder case.

The arrest warrant against Nkwanzi was issued on Monday (January 8, 2024) by Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza at the request of Chief State Attorney Jonathan Muwaganya from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“Defence lawyer John Jet Tumwebaze told the court that she is at home receiving treatment, I want to agree with the state that this court will not wait until it is convenient for her to appear in court. An arrest warrant is therefore issued against her,” Kakooza ruled.

Nkwanzi is charged with the offence of destroying evidence jointly with her sister Patricia Kakwanza.

Nkwanzi gave birth on November 19, 2023 prompting the court to issue a criminal summons against her which she never answered.

The court has also extended criminal summons against Molly Katanga, who is charged with the murder of her husband.

The court heard that Molly is still admitted at the International Hospital in Kampala where she was admitted after the incident on November 2, 2023.

Katanga, a renowned city moneylender allegedly succumbed to a gunshot wound he sustained on the left side of his head after a verbal exchange with his wife Molly on November 2, 2023, at their residence at Mbuya Chwa II Road, Nakawa division, Kampala district.

In the same case, George Amanyire and Charles are charged as accessories to the murder.

Otai served as a domestic worker at the deceased’s home while Otai was a nursing officer who was called to the deceased’s home after the incident.

The prosecution alleges that on November 2, 2023, at Mbuya Chwa II Road, Nakawa Division with malice aforethought, Molly caused the death of Katanga.

A police report referenced SD21/02/11/2023 of Bugolobi police station indicates that Katanga was shot at close range and that no bullets and fragments were recovered after Katanga’s body was delivered at the city mortuary on November 2.

The report further indicates that Katanga’s body was wrapped in a mattress cover, stuffed in a vehicle, and transported to Mulago hospital mortuary.

The details of who moved the body remain a subject of ongoing police investigations.
Police said it retrieved a pistol number UG1622200061CZ99 compact that is suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.
