Katanga’s murder case resumes Monday

The murder case against five people including the widow of the slain businessman Henry Katanga, resume on Monday at Nakawa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kampala.

Katanga died of a gunshot wound after a fight with his wife, Molly Katanga, at their matrimonial home in Mbuya on November 2, 2023.

Subsequently, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo slapped charges of murder against Molly, for allegedly killing her husband.

The DPP also sanctioned the charge of destroying evidence against Patricia Kakwanza and Martha Nkwanzi for tampering with the evidence at the crime scene.

Abodo further sanctioned the charge of accessory after the fact of murder against George Amanyire and Charles Otai for assisting the suspects to escape punishment.

Following the incident, Molly was rushed to International Hospital Kampala for treatment, where she was admitted to date, while the other four are in Luzira Prison, pending investigations into the matter.

The four are expected to appear before Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza, to know the status of investigations into the matter.

Police report

A copy of a preliminary Police report seen by New Vision indicates that the fatal shooting of the 61-year-old businessman (Katanga) was reported on November 2, at 9:00 am at Bugolobi Police Station.

The report indicates that Katanga lay lifeless in a pool of blood on the mattress in the master bedroom, with an apparent bullet wound to his head.

According to the report, the daughter said her father was in a heated argument with her mother (Molly) and later, she heard a gunshot in the bedroom.

“She rushed to the bedroom and found her father leaning on the bed, with blood coming out of his head and her mother lying on the ground, unconscious. She was rushed to IHK Hospital for treatment by the family members before the arrival of the Police,” the report reads.

Police also retrieved a pistol number UG16222 00061 CZ99 compact, according to the report.
