The Parish priest of St Patrick’s Catholic Parish-Madera in Soroti City East division, Fr Henry Agit, together with his flock, has cursed the thieves who have continued stealing their church property.

This follows a recent incident where unidentified people reportedly raided the parish kraal and stole two bulls belonging to Soroti Catholic Diocese Bishop Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach on December 19, 2023.

“The thieves suspected to be riding a motorcycle cut the fence accessed the kraal and made away with the two bulls,” Agit said.

He added that the two animals’ worth over sh2m were part of the over 20 cows offered to the bishop for the construction of a sh8.2b Regina Caeli Church building in Aminit.

Special prayers

On Sunday, December 31, 2023, Fr Agit with his Christians conducted special prayers and performed special rituals at the kraal as they laid curses upon the thieves who broke into the kraal to steal cows.

“Hear my cry for help oh Lord. You are not a God who delights in evil. You hate all who do evil. Shorten the days of the lives of these thieves on earth, we pray all these in Jesus' name, Amen,” Agit Prayed.

“This is the curse which is to go forth over the whole earth by it shall every thief be swept away and in accordance shall every thief be expelled from the planet earth. I will send forth the Lord of horsts and shall come into the house of the thief. Every timber or stone must be burnt in a thief’s house, says the Lord,” Fr Agit recited.

According to him, the thieves have continued stealing property belonging to the parish including animals, poultry, and altar chairs.

Call for curses

Fr Agit said they sought God’s intervention after a failed attempt to recover the cows through peaceful means.

“The thugs were given two weeks to return the bulls but they refused hence forcing the Christians and I to conduct holy Mass at the kraal where the bulls were stolen asking God to take avenge,” he said.

The chairperson parish council of St Patrick Catholic parish, Sebastian Obula, condemned the act of the thieves and asked them to repent before God.

Julius Okima, the church choirmaster, appealed to the thieves to return the cows because they shouldn’t joke with the priest's curses.

“These thieves are abusing the bishop’s efforts to mobilise resources for the construction of the new cathedral,” Okima said.

Julius Benedict Eyagu Eroju, a Christian, said the prayers and the curses laid on the thieves were right and fitting.

Another Christian, Sophia Atik, said the curses are generational if the thief does not repent and return the stolen animals.
