The Vice President Jessica Alupo on Tuesday celebrated her 77th mother’s birthday with a call to parents to educate their children, saying investment in education was the best insurance for the latter’s future.

“I urge parents to educate all their children if they are to become responsible people in future. Instill discipline and good morals in children as well,” Alupo said while thanking her mother for educating all her children.

She also thanked her mother and their departed father for bringing them up in a Christian and dignified way which is full of humility.

Flanked by her husband, Peter Abaine, Alupo who doubles as Woman MP for Katakwi district, said there are no words to better describe her mother. “She was and will always be everything to us her children.”

Citing the fourth commandment, the Vice President appealed to the general public to respect parents. “The Bible and Quaran, all tell us to honour our parents (Mother and Father) in order to get long life. I would like to call upon all of us to observe that commandment,” Alupo noted.

She urged children to always remember and respect their parents by offering everything possible to them to get rewards of God’s blessings.

The Vice President, who is the fourth born of the nine children (six girls and three boys) said her mother who is a retired midwife and their deceased father a teacher, raised them through hard work.

“We used to see our parents work so hard to supplement their salary in order to educate all the children. I want to call upon all us here not to think that it is too difficult to educate children. Everything is possible with determination and hard-work,” Alupo advised.

She explained that with the introduction of both Primary and Secondary education its much easier now for parents to educate all their children including those from extended families unlike before.

The Vice President urged parents to strive to build on what Government has managed to provide to enable their children have a better future.

She said their mother retired with honours without any trace of corruption and promised to follow her footsteps by observing zero tolerance to corruption.

Alupo reiterated President Yoweri Museveni's message that underscores the need to strengthen and continue deepening Pan Africanism and East African integration and also to promote trade and security.

She encouraged the people of Katakwi to support Museveni in the 2026 general elections.
