Outgoing Leader of Opposition (LOP) Mathias Mpuuga has warned the youth against being consumed with social media misuse.

Mpuuga who is also the Member of Parliament for Masaka City's Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, raised the concern while addressing the

Christian congregation during the main Christmas mass at Kitovu Cathedral in Masaka Diocese.

The legislator said the youth must use social media platforms for constructive content: “Do not feed the social media with irresponsible content”.

He asked parents to be mindful of the mindset of the young generation to protect them against being wasted: “We must play a role in shaping

the future generation to turn them into responsible citizens of the nation".

Leaving a legacy

Turning to his tenure of office at LOP, Mpuuga said he has left a legacy.

“My term of office concludes at the end of this year, [however] I will still play a crucial role in guiding and shaping the Parliament in my new task [as commissioner], I have left a legacy on principles,” he said.

According to him, some of his causes have been misunderstood: “With time, those who misunderstood me will understand me better, I work with determination for a good cause”.

He warned Christians against extravagance during the Christmas holiday.

“You must not waste your hard-earned money on beaches and luxuries because the school fees stress in getting closer,” he said.

Report missing persons to the Police

He thanked Masaka Diocese Bishop Serverus Jjumba for his initiative to visit prisons during the Christmas holiday.

He said many people are languishing in prisons without the knowledge of their people.

“It is important to visit prisons as leaders, we

have scenarios where we find inmates who are stuck there without the knowledge of their families,” he said.

Mpuga asked the public to always report to the Police and other platforms when their people go missing mysteriously.

Bishop Jjumba preached love and forgiveness among Christian families.

He strongly warned the public against environmental degradation that will plunge the nation into a climatic crisis.

The Masaka City Mayor, Florence Namayanja said the city is still grappling with poor garbage management and cleanliness challenges.

She also noted that the city has registered significant achievements.
