Given the complexity that comes with acquiring a national identity card from the National Information and Registration Authority (NIRA), parents are making the most of this year's Toto Christmas Festival to get their children registered.

According to Charles Mulabi from Kisaasi in Kampala, accessing NIRA offices is usually time-consuming.

Mulabi, who deals in fresh produce at Ntinda Market, added that because the services are in a public setting in the city centre, it motivated him to come with his 11-year-old son to get registered to get a national ID and birth registration certificate.

Although all registration for children at all NIRA offices for national IDs is free, the transport costs and queues sometimes prevent parents from registering their children.

Mulabi is among the many parents that have graced this year's Toto Christmas Festival, taking place at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel gardens.

The entrance fee is a nominal sh10,000. It is free entry for children below one year as well as parents.

One of the many activities that can be done at this year's festival is the registration of children for the acquisition of birth certificates and national IDs.

The festival is organised by Vision Group and supported by Jesa Dairies, and Pepsi among others.
