Sarah Babirye Kityo, the President of the Uganda Netball Federation, facing accusations of fraudulent false accounting regarding shillings 186 million, has been directed by Principal Grade One Magistrate Christopher Opit to surrender her passport and certificate of title to the court.

During the bail hearing on December 1, 2023, Magistrate Opit granted bail to Kityo on the condition that she must deposit her passport and certificate of title by December 6, 2023, as part of the bail requirements.

Chief State Attorney Gloria Inzikuru at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), said the passport is required because the accused could be a flight risk.

Kityo's lawyer, Joseph Luzige, mentioned in court last week that her passport was in possession of the British High Commission for travel arrangements. Luzige emphasized that Kityo had no intention of evading trial and pleaded for bail on her behalf.

The allegations involve Kityo and others, who are currently at large, and are connected to activities at the Uganda Netball Federation between December and November 2021.

They are accused of intending to defraud by providing false accountability for sh186 million released by the National Council of Sports to the Federation for the pent series and African National Championship held in Namibia. The pent series aimed to boost team rankings for participation in the 2021 Commonwealth Games. Kityo has denied the charge.
