The government has revealed it has upgraded internet connectivity at Entebbe Airport for a better user experience as the country gears up for the Non-Allied Movement (NAM) and Group of 77+China summits.

The permanent secretary for the Ministry for ICT and National Guidance, Dr Amina Zawedde said on Tuesday they had upgraded the airport internet to WiFi 6.

WiFi 6 is a fast wireless LAN (Local Area Network) technology that enables the efficient performance of networked devices in dense conditions.

"We are now certain and sure of efficient connectivity at the airport,” she said, adding: "We are not only connecting the airport but also areas of the summit, including Munyonyo, and upgrading it to WiFi 6 as well."

She noted that designated areas around the Uganda Media Centre will also be upgraded “and we are going to have a robust link set up to support proceedings, including live coverage.”

"So, we expect that we shall not have breaks in transmission during the live coverages," she said.

She added that their technicians will also ensure that cyber security of the systems is upgraded to the highest firewall level.

She was speaking during a Media Breakfast Meeting organised to update the country on Uganda's preparation to host the forthcoming Non-aligned Movement and G77 Conference at Kampala Serena Hotel on Tuesday.

"We have also done an awareness training to organisers and are continuing to sensitize all entities involved in the organization, including the media," she said.

She said they have supported the setting up of two websites for NAM and G77 summits and boosted them with stronger web firewall application protection to ensure that all content is safe.

The NAM summit will be held at Speke Resort Hotel, Munyonyo, between 15 to 20 January while the G77 summit (Third South Summit) will be held from 21 to 23 January under the themes “Depending Cooperation for shared global affluence” and “Leaving no one behind” respectively.
