The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the death of its second Vice President Darius Mugoye just two months after he closed a national tournament at its technical centre in Njeru, Buikwe district.

“It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform the public, delegates, football family, and other stakeholders of the death of our 2nd FUFA Vice President Mr. Mugoye Darius that occurred this morning Tuesday 7th November 2023 at Mengo Hospital,” the statement posted on FUFA’s X account, reads.

Ahmed Hussein, the FUFA spokesman, told the media on Tuesday, November 7, that Mugoye had been hospitalised for an illness he did not disclose for less than two weeks.

On August 4, 2023, Mugoye was with FUFA executive member Sam Mpiima and FUFA deputy chief executive officer of football Decolas Kiiza at the FUFA Technical Centre to grace the closing ceremony of the 2022/23 FUFA juniors league national finals.

FUFA took pictures that day and posted them on X showing Mugoye, who was wearing a baseball cap, greeting his colleagues at the technical centre.

Mugoye had served under FUFA president and Budiope East MP Moses Magogo since 2013, and they started their new term after being elected by the FUFA delegates in Moroto district this year.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, who is married to Magogo, also took to X to say they were “deeply saddened” by the news of the demise of their brother, Mugoye.

“Darius was a very reliable, dependable, committed, and trustworthy friend who we shall dearly miss! He made tremendous contributions to the sports and education sectors and left a huge gap. My sympathies go to his family, friends, his @OfficialFUFA family, and the sports fraternity. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” she wrote on her account.

By the time of filing this story, FUFA had yet to announce his burial arrangements.
