In a historic appointment, Roraima Ana Andriani officially assumed her role as the new Special Representative of International Police (Interpol) to the United Nations (UN), becoming the first woman to lead this office.

Founded in Vienna 100 years ago, Interpol is a long-standing facilitator of international police cooperation across its 195 member countries including Uganda, providing a robust global framework to navigate the evolving landscape of international security.

About Andriani?

With a distinguished law enforcement career spanning over three decades at national, regional, and international levels, Andriani will take charge of Interpol’s UN Office in New York, established in 2004 to foster cooperation between the two organisations, according to a Wednesday Interpol press release.

Before her current position, she held the role of acting executive director of partnerships and planning, where she played a vital role in managing Interpol’s strategic partnerships and strengthening connections with regional and international entities, including the UN.

During her meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Andriani expressed her objective to bolster collaboration with the UN, particularly in combating environmental crime.

Andriani also emphasized the imperative of promoting gender equality and engaging youth in meaningful dialogues, which are important initiatives of both organisations.
