President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to former Kole district chairperson Betty Akoli Nam describing her as a great NRM mobiliser.

Betty Akoli Nam, 60, passed on from her home in Lira city's Junior Quarters, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, after a short illness.

 “I have brought a message of condolence from the President,” health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said on Saturday, October 21, 2023, during Nam's burial in Alito town council, Kole district.

She said President Museveni regretted the untimely death of his daughter and had wished to contribute towards the care if the death was not so sudden.

Aceng handed over shillings 10 million from the President to Dr Richard Nam, the widower.

Cecilia Atim Ogwal, an elder in the Okii Amat clan to which the deceased belonged, encouraged Nam to be strong and commended him for standing with his wife. She urged all couples to always stand with their spouses.  

Edith Aliguma Adyeri, the LC5 chairperson of Kiryandongo and her counterpart of Bukedea, Mary Akol, graced the function and represented the other four female LC5 chairpersons.

Bishop Julius Ceaser Nina Otim of West Lango Diocese urged the congregation to prepare themselves, for they don’t know when God will call them.

Robert Edinga, the diocesan secretary who delivered the sermon, said there is a problem with all aspects of life in Lango region.

“If you see what is happening in our community, you get scared and wonder what type of believers we have,” Edinga said.

He said there is conflict in churches, cultural institutions, and politics yet all those involved call themselves Christians.
