The former Leader of Opposition in Parliament and former Agago North Member of Parliament, Prof. Morris Ogenga Latigo, is recovering after surviving a car crash in Luwero District.

This was after the car he was driving crashed into a stationary sugarcane truck that had reportedly run out of fuel on Saturday, September 30.

Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, said the former MP survived with minor injuries.

"The territorial Traffic Police of Luwero is investigating a case of a serious accident that occurred Saturday, September 30, 2023, at approximately 11:58 pm at Lubenge swamp along Gulu-Kkampala highway in Luwero district,” he said.

“It involved motor vehicles registration number, UBJ 070B Tata white in colour belonging to Victoria Sugar Factory, driver still at large, and UBG 961D Mercedes Benz silver in colour driven by Prof. Latigo" Twineamazima said.

He explained that the truck loaded with sugar cane from Masindi to Luwero ran out of fuel and obstructed traffic from Gulu to Kampala.

Later Prof. Ogenga who was driving his car rammed into that stationery truck injuring himself.

"Upon Police receiving the information, they responded in time. Professor was rushed to St Ceaser Lacor Hospital for treatment where doctors are managing him well. Scene of crime visited, sketch map drawn, both vehicles were towed to Kakoge Police Station parking yard pending Inspector of Vehicles inspection, examination, a case of serious accident registered, relevant statements were recorded and the hunt for the driver is ongoing," he added.

This is the fifth vehicular incident that the former MP has been involved in.

In 2019 while serving as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, his vehicle was involved in a crash in which his driver Sam Tabu and a young lady believed to be a close associate of Prof. Innocent Awor, died.

In January 2011, Latigo was involved in another incident after his vehicle knocked and killed a cyclist in Kiryandongo District.
