Police net three men with counterfeit currency and narcotic drugs

The police in Nsangi, Wakiso district were Tuesday still holding three suspected fraudsters accused of having counterfeit currency and narcotic substances.

The arrest followed a tipoff from residents of Bandwe Zone in Kyengera Town Council about the suspicious activities of men who had just rented a three-bedroomed house in the area.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango identified the suspects as Edrisa Inkonero, Simon Kyeyune alias Jajja, and Geoffrey Musoke.

According to Onyango, after getting a tipoff, the police on Monday, September 18, 2023, at about 5:00 p.m. swung into action cordoned off the area, and arrested the suspects.

They were allegedly found in possession of counterfeit dollars amounting to $35,200 in 100 denominations and sh7m counterfeit Uganda Shillings in 50,000 notes.

It is said Musoke was found in possession of court bail documents from Nsangi magistrate’s court indicating that he was still reporting to court over several criminal cases including robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to Onyango, during the search, the police also recovered some suspicious bones, which had been submitted to the government analytical laboratory to establish whether they were human or animal remains.

Other items recovered from the house included suspected marijuana drugs or substances that were also exhibited.

Onyango appealed to the public to remain vigilant and always immediately report suspicious persons in their respective areas to the police or local authorities for action.

Musoke, according to the bail document that the police released to journalists, was on September 12, 2023, released on bail cash of sh1m and was supposed to report back to court on October 10, 2023. Two people, Jimmy Kiiza and Robert Bakiranze stood surety for him.

According to Onyango, inquiries were still ongoing and when they finalize the investigations, the suspects would be arraigned in court.
