In a late-night operation conducted by the Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan East and Kira division, nine individuals found themselves behind bars.

They are accused of causing significant noise pollution in Kireka and Bweyogerere in Kira municipality, Wakiso district.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says the incident, which unfolded on September 10, 2023, night at around midnight, was triggered by concerned residents who could no longer bear the disruptive cacophony emanating from local bars.

He says as the clock struck midnight, anxious residents made their grievances known to the local authorities.

"They reported that several bars in the area were blaring loud music, creating an atmosphere that made it nearly impossible for the community to find peaceful reprieve in slumber," Enanga said.

He made the remarks during the weekly joint security briefing at Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala on Monday.

In response to the pleas, according to Enanga, a coordinated effort was initiated by a Joint Task Team comprised of personnel from Kira and Bweyogerere. Their mission: To put an end to this disturbing disturbance. In the course of their operation, they apprehended nine suspects who were linked to three specific bars:

Arrests

The suspects arrested in connection with the noise pollution incident were identified as Byarugaba Peter, Akandunda Brenda, Tumuheki Deus, Kansime Osbert, Kashanya James, Andabati James, Pandi Ramathan, Atiku Simon, and Obita Robert.

Alongside the suspects, law enforcement also managed to seize several pieces of evidence, including the sound equipment and speakers responsible for the excessive noise.

"The swift action taken by the authorities underscores their commitment to addressing the concerns and well-being of residents. Noise pollution is an issue that affects the quality of life for communities and this incident serves as a reminder that legal measures will be enforced to maintain the peace and tranquility of the area," Enanga said.

The apprehension of these nine suspects is expected to send a clear message about the importance of adhering to noise regulations and respecting the rights of neighbors to enjoy a quiet environment. The community in Kireka Bweyogerere now awaits the legal proceedings that will determine the consequences for those responsible for disrupting their peace.
