The Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, has made a passionate appeal to Christians and all Ugandans to build a new culture of peace and justice.

He condemned the sub-culture of selfishness, self-aggrandisement, exploitation, oppression and domination, to which he attributed the rampant violence and general social anarchy.

He asked Christians and all Ugandans to let peace dwell in their hearts, communities and the country.

He was delivering his homily during the thanksgiving mass for the official opening of the celebrations of the Kampala Archdiocese peace month at Rubaga Cathedral (in Rubaga Division) on Friday, September 1.

Ssemogerere asked Christians to observe the principles of truth, fairness and human solidarity as the first step in promoting peace. He also asked them to protect the environment.

As a gesture of commitment to environmental preservation, Archbishop Ssemogerere planted a memorial tree in the quadrangle of the cathedral.

The celebrations at the cathedral were organised by the Kampala Archdiocese Department of Justice and Peace, which is directed by Fr Emmanuel Sita and his team.
