Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has today (Monday, August 14) met with agro-input dealers, agriculturalists, representatives of various government institutions and farmers’ organisations at her office to find ways of increasing agricultural production in the country.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister says the meeting attended by several agriculturalists agreed to support the forthcoming nationwide campaign that is aimed at increasing agricultural production, productivity and profitability.

This campaign, which starts next week, will include regional agricultural expos and knowledge-sharing sessions as well as health camps. It is designed to facilitate the implementation of President Yoweri Museveni’s six policy proposals to develop the agricultural sector,” the statement states.

The President’s proposals include the production, multiplication, distribution and certification of seeds and stocking materials; disease control; agricultural mechanisation and irrigation; farmer education and mobilisation; partnerships with big land owners and interventions in the fisheries sector.

During this drive, the technical teams from different agricultural agencies, agriculture ministry and other government and private agricultural institutions will share knowledge and showcase value addition and agro-processing technologies.

They will also offer health services to the people during this campaign which will kick off in greater Mubende.

On August 6, 2023, Nabbanja officially started the Government’s agriculture mobilisation campaign in Mityana and Mubende districts.

During the tour of the district, Nabbanja met with district political leaders and technical officers.

“The president’s proposals encompass various aspects such as seed production, disease control, mechanization, farmer education, partnerships with land owners, and interventions in the fisheries sector,” Nabbanja said.

She mentioned that the campaign will bring together small-scale and large-scale farmers, agricultural researchers, farmer associations, agro-input dealers, and other stakeholders.

There will be knowledge-sharing sessions and demonstrations of value addition and agro-processing technologies by the technical teams from the Prime Minister’s delivery unit, agriculture ministry and other government and private agricultural institutions.

Nabbanja said she was hopeful that the campaign will significantly enhance agricultural production, productivity, and profitability for socio-economic transformation.
