Business has been paralyzed in areas of Moyo and Adjumani districts via Laropi-Umi across the river Nile.

This follows the breakdown of the ferry managed by the Uganda National Roads Authority.

Speaking to Arua One FM, Moyo district chairperson, Williams Anyama expressed his frustration but remains optimistic that the stalemate will be resolved.

Meanwhile, the development of the Laropi Bridge was identified under the National Development Plan III as the required infrastructure to facilitate connectivity across the River Nile to enhance improved household incomes and quality of life in the region.

That is according to Anyama.

According to the project design, the proposed bridge will have 7-meter carriage width, 2-meter shoulders, 2-meter walkway, and standard Paved Class II approach roads.

The proposed Laropi-Umi bridge will be located at a spot where the Atiak-Laropi road which is currently under development intersects with Laropi-Moyo-Afoji on River Nile.

The Uganda National Roads Authority(UNRA) in a press release dated August 10, 2023, indicated that the Laropi Ferry is currently due for maintenance works for purposes of ensuring continued safe operations at the ferry crossings.
