12  supporters of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party were Friday evening remanded to Luzira Prison over the chaotic scenes that unfolded when party members met the same day.

The party convened its much-anticipated 16th National Council Meeting at its headquarters in Najjanankumbi, just off the Kampala-Entebbe Road.

The FDC head of security and Busia municipality mayor, Amin Sadiki Agele, was one of the people roughed up during the dramatic exchanges that played out at the premises.

His clothes got ripped before the Police intervened to calm the mood.

Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Patrick Onyango said those who were arrested were not immediately identified by name, but that they were taken to the City Hall Court and then remanded to Luzira.

FDC deputy secretary general Harold Kaija said 12 party members were denied entry into the offices, before being arrested.

“Our colleagues were bundled by Police in security patrol vehicles and were taken directly to Luzira,” he claimed.

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago commented on the arrests.

“I came to know that those people were arrested but they were summarily taken to court and remanded,” he said.

Lukwago, a lawyer, added that arrangements were underway to prepare them to be presented before the courts of law in the hope that they are freed as soon as possible.
