Spotting an off-colour long-sleeved pink shirt and a midsize moustache, Didas Ahimbisibwe looks nervous in court.

Before taking the dock at Ibanda Grade One Magistrate's Court, the suspect, who is a teacher, looks all around the court as if searching for something.

When his case was called for mention, he moved quickly to the dock with a blank stare at the court users and the bench.

Ahimbisibwe, 36, a resident of Hima town council in Kasese district, stands accused of engaging in an illegal sexual act.

It is alleged that Ahimbisibwe had canal knowledge of a primary school boy at Ibanda Preparatory School between 2019 and 2023 against the order of nature. The offence contravenes Section 125(a) of the Penal Code Act. The victim is currently in S3.

Her Worship Esther Murungi advised the primary school teacher not to take a plea, explaining that her court has no jurisdiction to hear the case.

"The purpose is to communicate the charges against you, but don't say anything because this court has no power to hear the case," the magistrate said.

According to the prosecution, inquiries into the case are ongoing.

Ahimbisibwe was also advised he can only apply for bail before the trial magistrate when he reappears in court on August 16, when his case comes up for mention.
