On Monday (July 24), Uganda's Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja met with Pope Francis at the Vatican's Apostolic Palace in Italy. This was after she had given a keynote address at the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East Annual Summit at the St. Regis Hotel in the capital, Rome. The summit was held under the theme: 'Feeding a Planet of Prosperity'.

"In my address, I gave a brief historical account of Uganda and Africa in general as well as our country's potential to feed many parts of the world. I also used this opportunity to market our country as a top tourism destination, showcasing our fauna and flora," tweeted the Prime Minister.

Reports indicated that the meeting lasted about 25 minutes.

Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office, is quoted in media as saying that the Pope and PM Nabbanja discussed various issues, including refugees.

"Among the topics covered during the conversation, the Pope was touched by the welcome generously extended by Ugandan institutions to migrants and refugees, not only from the African region, but as far as Central Asian countries,” Bruni is quoted as saying.

"Your Holiness, thank you for the opportunity to meet you. I appreciate your time and the blessings," tweeted Nabbanja.

Nabbanja arrived in the Italian capital Rome on Sunday, the eve of the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East Annual Summit.

She was received by Uganda’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Italy Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, and Alinemary Kemerwa Kenyangi, the Deputy Head of Mission.

Siraji Wakaabu, the Agriculture Attache or the Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN's food agency FAO, World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, was also part of the team that received the Ugandan PM.

While there, Nabbanj interacted with Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and members of his delegation, who were also in Rome to attend the same summit.
