Amidst the challenges of poverty among most households which comes along with temptations that may lead to the breakdown of marriages, married couples have been urged to remain steadfast.

The couple can remain steadfast by ensuring that they remain faithful to each other at all times for the sake of keeping strong families that respect the Almighty God.

"Keep your trust in God and you will overcome all acts of satanic temptations," Namirembe Diocese bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira says.

Luwalira made the call on Saturday while officiating a wedding for the Uganda Scouts Association national executive commissioner [NEC] David Muledhu who tied the knot with Charity Nabaasa at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala.

"We have seen many marriages falling apart due to several acts of satanic temptations such as domestic violence, alcoholism, fornication as well as high levels of entrenched household poverty," Luwalira said.

According to the 2022 Police Annual Crime Report, Uganda registered 17,698 reported cases of domestic violence in 2022, compared to 17,533 in 2021 and the that Government is losing shillings 18.3 billion in healthcare costs related to domestic violence.

However, according to Luwalira, if families go back to religious values, such cases can be reduced.

"The Church urges couples to remain steadfast and desist any satanic attempts to break up, but keep praying to God to keep them stronger forever as we go through this challenging time," he added.

He congratulated the Muledhus for choosing to be man and wife saying the new contractual obligation bonds them to ensure that they vividly keep their agreement never to break up despite the several societal challenges. He wished them a new and prosperous life in marriage.

"Church is concerned about the increasing cases of domestic violence leading to family breakup, which sends a wrong signal in society. However, we want those challenged families not to disappear, but seek counselling services from the Church whose doors are open for help’’ Luwalira said.

Speaking while presiding over the ceremony, Prof.Badru Katerega, the chief scout of Uganda, urged David to take up full responsibility for ensuring he does everything possible for his new bond holds and bears positive fruits.

"I call upon all scouts to emulate David by ensuring that each one of you formalises their marriages such that you can be a living example to the young upcoming scouts," Kateregga said.

He also advised couples to build their marriages on religious values hence having strong families.

In attendance were members of the scouts fraternity, friends and relatives of David and politicians, among others.
