The Chief of Staff for Land Forces at the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Maj. Gen. Jack Bagonza Bakasumba has called for unity among African armed forces as a strategy for solving their common threats on the continent.

Bakasumba noted the importance of African armed forces standing and finding solutions to the common problems undermining peace, security and development in the region.

“As Africans, it is important that we stand together and find solutions to the common problems that face our destiny," he said.

This was at the closure of a three-day conference for chief instructors of the African command and Staff colleges and higher institutions of military trainings (CiS-CoC) at Silver Springs Hotel in Kampala on Wednesday.

According to Maj. Gen. George Igumba, the commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka in Jinja city, all the presentations pointed out the challenges faced and how to find their solutions.

Accordingly, Bakasumba emphasised that all the common points that affect their forces needed to be solved by themselves.

“African solutions to African problems. Shall we ever be there, that should always remind us of where we came from, where we are and where we want this continent to be,” he said.

During the session, Bakasumba congratulated Igumba for being elected chairperson of the CIS-CoC for 2023 after taking over from his Angolan counterpart late last year.

He hailed the participants for completing the theme talks of what they are obliged to do as African colleges and topics

The conference drew instructors from Egypt, Malawi, Botswana, Libya, Tanzania, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Uganda.
