Military stores case: Judgement day set for July 24

The chairman of the General Court Martial, Brig. Gen. Freeman Mugabe, has set July 24 as the day he will deliver his judgment in case involving a civilian and military stores.

Jonathan Muhumuza Pyani, 24, has been battling charges of unlawful possession of defense stores since October 3, 2022.

He is a resident of Kyaliwajala B Kiira Division in Wakiso district.

Unlawful possession of defense stores contravenes Sections 160 (1) and (2) (C) of the UPDF Act, 2005, and conviction attracts a maximum imprisonment sentence of ten years.

The prosecution alleges that Muhumuza was found in unlawful possession of gazetted defence stores on or around September 15, 2022 in Kyaliwajala ‘B’ Kiira Division in Wakiso district.

The items he was allegedly found with were three military walkie-talkies, two pairs of desert boots, one SFC Camouflage hat, four military hats and a cap, one military jacket, one military vest, one military T-shirt and one military trouser.

Elizabeth Nyasingwa is representing the accused in court while Lt Alex Mukhana, Privates Anthony Phillip Olupot, and Regina Nanzala are prosecuting the case.

On Tuesday (July 11), army court chairman Brig. Gen Mugabe remanded the accused back to Kitalya Government Prison, where he will stay until judgement day.
