It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of a home because it is where meals are prepared.

The kitchen is a yardstick for the general cleanliness and tidiness of a home. Gone are the days when the smell of food welcomed visitors as soon as they stepped into your home, or smoke brought tears to the cook’s eyes.

With the advancement of the electric fume sucker or chimney, traditional chimneys have become a thing of the past, says Michael Gitta, an interior designer.

“The kitchen must always be clean, aerated, and attractive for you to enjoy cooking,” he stresses.

To achieve this, a fumes-sucker should be installed in the kitchen. A fume-sucker is a modern chimney.

It is an electric vent installed above the cooker to trap the aroma of food wafting through the air polluting the entire house, explains Gitta.

Unlike ordinary exhaust fans or chimneys, this modern chimney transforms the kitchen into a clean, classy, and enjoyable place to cook, dine, and unwind.

After all, many people regard the kitchen as an extension of the sitting room. The sucker’s ability to draw out smoke and food aromas before they spread in the house makes it an ideal investment for a modern home, Gitta asserts.

Isaac Kibuuka, a chef says electric kitchen chimneys are not for show-offs. Their job is to prevent fumes from causing damage to the ceiling, particularly in the area directly above the cooker.

Nonetheless, you can choose out of the two types of chimneys including traditional and designer ones, Kibuuka adds.

“The traditional one is for ordinary users who prefer a chimney only for smoke absorption abilities, while the designer chimneys are for those who want a chimney that enhances the décor of smoke and fumes from food.”

A traditional chimney is not a perfect choice for a modern home because it cannot instantly trap smoke and food fumes before they get into your eyes or spread in the kitchen.

For those who opt for the electric fume sucker, Kibuuka advises them to use an expert to install it for them. He says the installation cost will depend on the size and type one chooses.
