Police from Kira region have recovered two vehicles, which were stolen from Bugembe town council in Jinja city's north division.

Kiira Police region spokesperson James Mubi on Wednesday said the recovery followed an operation on Tuesday night led by the Police region commander, Richard Okullu.

Mubi said the stolen vehicles include a Toyota Pajero UAD 666X which was stolen from the home of John Bosco Musota at about 3:00 am at Igenge Hill in Bugembe.

He added that the other was a Toyota Camry: UAK 923P, which was also stolen from the home of Ronald Ibanda also found on Igenge Hill.

“Using our CCTV cameras and intensified crime intelligence information, we have recovered the Old Toyota Pajero vehicle from Nakibizi in Njeru division in Buikwe district, while the Toyota Camry was recovered from Bugembe Cathedral farm,” Mubi said.

He added that after receiving complaints about the theft, they started tracking the culprits who are still in hiding.

According to him, they are co-ordinating with Sezibwa and Busoga East Police regions to wipe out the criminals because most of the culprits are suspected to come from those areas.

“Intelligence is on the ground to do the needful by feeding operational commanders with credible information. We are determined to crack down the group as Kiira region with the support of others,” he added.

He noted that so far, 14 culprits have been convicted and are serving a 14-year imprisonment sentence at Kirinya Prisons including their gang leader Simon Olowo.

He urged the Bugembe community to remain calm and co-operate with Police by sharing timely information as they are determined to sweep suspected criminals out of Jinja city by arresting and prosecuting culprits, conducting day and night patrols, intensifying community policing by emphasising neighbourhood watch and village security meetings among others.
