Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) deputy chief of personnel and administration Brig. Gen. Godfrey Kigozi has advised senior officers who are yet to retire to have a retirement plan.

According to him, this will enable them to have a better final phase of human growth.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during the documentation and sensitisation exercise of senior officers from the rank of Major to Colonel who are due for retirement on August 31, 2023, in Batch 13A at Jinja Cantonment, Gaddafi Barracks in Jinja district.

“As you go for retirement, have a purposeful plan with a positive mind so that you can invest your retirement package wisely,” he said in a statement from the UPDF released on Wednesday.

The purpose of the documentation and sensitisation exercise, according to Kigozi, is to offer financial literacy for retirees and for them to understand what they are signing for a smooth and transparent process.

Kigozi implored the officers to pay attention to the financial literacy lessons they will be taught and also to go and be good ambassadors to protect the good name of UPDF.

The commissioner of human resources of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Cox Anguzu, advised the officer to save and invest when they get their money.

“Avoid unnecessary spending and live in good health in order to live longer,” he said.

The documentation for retiring officers from the rank of Brigadier to General will be done in Mbuya on Monday, July 10, 2023.

The total number of UPDF officers retiring in this batch 13A from the rank of Major to General is 110.
