URA restricts 15 goods at customs warehouse

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has issued a notice restricting 15 goods from being stored in the customs warehouses.

According to a public notice issued by the management on April 13, 2023, fifteen types of goods shall not be eligible to be stored in customs warehouses.

The management further said in the notice that the restriction is being carried out in accordance with Regulation 64(K) of the East African Customs Management Regulations of 2010. Regulation 64(K) gives URA the mandate to prohibit any other goods, which the commissioner customs may gazette.

“Uganda Revenue Authority hereby informs the general public that effective June 1, 2023, the following goods below shall not be eligible for the Warehouse regime, the notice states.

The restricted goods are wheat flour and wheat grain, mobile phones and mobile devices, tiles, marble and granite of all kinds, lubricants, automotive batteries, toiletries and cosmetics products, pasta and spaghetti and flavour for soft drinks.

The management of URA said the restriction is in addition to already restricted other goods such as sugar, milled, broken rice, motorcycle, vehicles tyres and tubes, dentifrices and motor vehicles of 13 years and above from the year of the manufacture.

URA clarified that restricted goods shall be cleared upon arrival in the country.

“Customs clearance for the above goods shall be facilitated under single customs territory arrangement where taxes shall be paid upon at first Port of entry into the East African Community, “management said.
