GULU | TWO CHILDREN | STABBED | POLICE

A mother in Gulu City has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her two children.

The incident resulted in the death of one of the children, while the other was left critically injured.

According to the police, the mother later attempted to take her own life before she was arrested.

“We managed to rush her to Gulu Hospital, where we are guarding her so that as soon as she recovers, we are compelled to charge her with the murder of her 4-year-old son, the attempted murder of her 3-month-old daughter, and also attempting to commit suicide,” Fred Enanga, the Uganda Police spokesperson, said Monday.

Enanga identified the woman as Cathy Aya, 30, a wife to James Opio; and a resident of Pece cell in Gulu.

The deceased has been identified as Tony Kimara, and the injured daughter was identified as Precious Atim.

“The motive is not clear because she is not yet in a position to record a statement,” Enanga said.
