Kampala City Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has said Court of Appeal Judge Kenneth Kakuru, who passed on this morning (March 7), has been on the 'right side'. Lukwago adds that Kakuru has been a defender of environmental order, human dignity, and civil liberty defender.

According to Lukwago, Kakaru fought for the environment even before he became a lawyer. The Lord mayor made the remarks from his office at City Hall in Kampala on Tuesday.

Lukwago said the epitome of Kakuru's career as a judicial officer came during the landmark age limit case in which Lukwago was one of the advocates of the petitioner.

“Throughout the proceedings, Kakuru exhibited attributes of a good jurist, a judge who stood firm amidst threats coming from different circles,” Lukwago said.

“He passionately delivered his judgment you could tell from his intonation and body language that there were forces pushing him not to deliver his judgement as per conscience and accordance in the law,” he said.

Lukwago said Kakauru resisted these forces in delivering the judgement.

“I applaud him for that, that marked the epitome of his career and he will live in the books of the noble judges' list. A person who has been on the right side. May his Soul Rest in Peace," Lukwago said.
