KAMPALA - The Police’s Flying Squad are considering options of charging Herold Byamugisha, the managing director of Aponye Uganda Limited, who had been reported missing.

Byamugisha, 41, resurfaced at home on Thursday night after getting information on social media that he had been declared missing.

His family, led by his father, Mzeei Apollo Nyegamehe aka Aponye, a Kampala city businessman and the National Resistance Movement chairman for Rukiga district had made a report at Lubowa Police post off Entebbe road, saying their person was missing.

They told Police that Byamugisha was last seen on Sunday, January 8, 2023, and thereafter his phones went off.

Aponye on Friday had booked space in the New Vision staking sh5m to whoever would give information of his whereabouts.

“This is to announce the disappearance of Mr. Harold Byamugisha, a son to Apollo Nyegamehe (Chairman NRM Rukiga district),” the statement reads in part.

“He was last seen on camera on Mulago-Kamwokya-Kira Road on Sunday January8, 2023 driving his motor vehicle range Rover white in color, number UBF 017D.”

Aponye had also included two phone numbers registered in the names of Aidah Busingye, 40, his wife and Denis Nuwagaba for anyone to provide information on his whereabouts.

Aponye said on Friday morning that he had been stressed by his missing son but he was relieved to get the news of his recovery.

“My son has been found, like any father, I was so stressed and restless, but now I know he is alive although I have not yet interacted with him,” he said, adding that Byamugisha’s wife had called him on phone that he had returned at their home in Lubowa.

Aponye said he was told he resurfaced after getting information through social media.

“It seems he was with someone and switched off his phone, but his wife has assured me that he is healthy and in good condition,” Aponye explained.

In a statement, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire said on January 10, Busingye gave a complaint to the Police at Lubowa that her husband had disappeared after having gone missing since January 8.

He said the police opened a case of a missing person and since then they had been searching for him.

In her statement, Busingye explained that he last called her on the phone, saying he would be home in 20 minutes, but she said she was shocked that he did not appear home and after waiting for two days, she decided to open a case of a missing person.

According to Owoyesigyire, investigations have been going on using CCTV camera to follow the car he was using.

But the police said that to their surprise on Thursday night, they got a call from the victim’s phone informing the police that he was fine and had no problem.

The police also confirmed this from Busingye who said she had also received the same information.

But Police said they need the wife to make an additional statement to that effect, otherwise, he would still be treated as a missing person or if he physically reports to the police to confirm that he resurfaced.
