The Police in Madi-Okollo are still searching for the bodies of two fishermen who drowned in River Nile in Pawor sub-county, Madi Okollo district on Tuesday evening (November 22, 2022).

The two brothers: Samuel Widonga and Felix Pirwoth, all residents of Owavu village in Pawor met their fate after strong wind overpowered their small boat, forcing it to capsize.

According to a Police report, their father, Emmanuel Owachgiu, said the two at 4:00 pm on the fateful day went for a fishing expedition and have since never returned.

West Nile Police spokesperson Josephine Angucia said Police have teamed up with residents to search for the two bodies.

She attributes such unfortunate accidents to the failure of fishermen to wear protective gear such as lifejackets whenever they go sailing.

“It’s unfortunate we are still losing our people to such accidents. We always advise fishermen to take precaution while fishing,” Angucia said.

Angucia added that the Police will continue sensitising the fishermen following the rampant cases of drowning in the water bodies.
