Kasaija tips UMU graduates on integrity

Uganda’s minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon Matia Kasaija has asked the new graduates of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi (UMU) to exercise a high degree of integrity in order to be successful in their respective careers.

He discouraged the growing sub-culture of selfishness and materialism, which he said, has made many young people lose their sense of moral judgment as they fight to get quick wealth.

“The virtue of integrity is very important. For that matter, you should endeavor to be truthful in everything you do. Truth is so powerful that even if you cover it up for years, it will finally make its way out and still prevail,” said Kasaija.

He made the remarks during the 28th Graduation Ceremony of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi (UMU). Kasaija was the Guest of Honor at the function, which took place at the university’s main Campus at Nkozi, in Mpigi district on Friday, November 18, 2022.

During the function a total of 1516 students were awarded Bachelor’s, Master’s Degrees and Diplomas in various academic disciplines including Education, Agriculture, Business Administration and Management, Development Economics, ICT, Engineering, just to name a few.

The function was presided over by the Chancellor of the University, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Antony Zziwa (the Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana).

The learned Prelate was assisted by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Edrin Kyamanywa and the Academic Registrar, the Rev. Dr. Josef Kisoga Buchana.

Earlier on, Bishop Serverus Jjumba of Masaka Diocese presided over the ceremony’s thanksgiving mass, during which he also asked UMU’s new graduates to live out the virtue of integrity, in order to make a positive change in their communities, the country and the world.

The ceremony ran under the theme: Agility, Flexibility and Creativity Towards Transformational Change.
