KAMPALA - The MTN Marathon, which is scheduled for November 20, 2022, has been boosted with a donation of sh70m from Prudential Assurance Uganda alongside its healthcare partners.

Prudential Assurance Uganda chief health officer Paul Nagemi, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, handed over the cheque to MTN senior brand and communications manager Martin Sebuliba at a function in Kampala city.

Nagemi said the sponsorship, which was given in partnership with C-Care IMC, a network of clinics and the Uganda Red Cross Society, will go towards the provision of health and emergency care services. He said runners who have paid for their kits will get free BMI and ECO tests at select C-Care IMC clinics.

“We are handing over the sponsorship package that comes with emergency and health care services for the pre-run and during the marathon run on Sunday,” Nagemi said.

C-Care IMC director of medical services Dr Arthur Sesanga said: “We will also have a full team set-up at Kololo as the marathon takes place,” Sesanga said.

Sebuliba lauded Prudential Assurance Uganda and its partners for the sponsorship.

“The MTN Marathon is a run that needs one to be physically fit to engage in. With Prudential’s efforts, we will be able to make the necessary arrangement to achieve this by providing our runners with BMI and ECG tests to determine their fitness and cardio,” Sebuliba added.

This year’s proceeds from the MTN Marathon shall be used to upgrade maternal newborn services in four selected health facilities in several parts of Uganda.

Some of the key facilities that are set to benefit from the marathon include Kaabong Health Centre III in the Karamoja region, Kachumbala Health Centre III in the Teso subregion as well as Kampala-based health centres such as Kisenyi Health Centre III and Kawaala Health Centre III.
