Three held over sh37m robbery in Isingiro

POLICE | ROBBERY | KASASIRA

ISINGIRO - The Police in Isingiro district are holding three suspects on allegations of robbing sh37m from Wave Money transfer employees. 

Those arrested are Bashir Bukenya, Joram Nkurunziza Kutesa and Hassan Kakungulu Mulangira.  

Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira said four occupants in a Mark-X vehicle: UBK 535, on Friday, November 11, 2022, trailed employees of Wave Money Transfer Uganda from Mbarara city in transit to distribute float to their agents in Kikagate at the Uganda-Tanzania border in Isingiro district. 

The suspects allegedly intercepted the victims at Nshungyezi on Isingiro-Kikagate road and paper sprayed them in the eyes after which they allegedly made off with the money. 

After the incident, the Police intercepted the suspects at Kabobo on the Isingiro-Kitwe road in Ntungamo district. 

However, one suspect identified as Twinamatsiko Denis managed to escape. 

Police recovered 13,473,500/= of the stolen money and a forged number plate UBJ 175C in the motor vehicle of the assailants. 

Kasasira added that the Police are hunting for Twinamatsiko and measures to have him arrested are ongoing.
