KAMPALA - The Judiciary has redeployed 10 officers at the rank of Chief Magistrates and Magistrate Grade One, in a move explained as a reshuffle.

According to a statement from the Judiciary communications unit dated October 25, the Chief Registrar, Sarah Langa Siu, effected the changes as part of improving efficiency in the administration of justice in the courts.

The two Chief Magistrates, Principal Magistrate Grade One, Senior Magistrate Grade One and eight Magistrates Grade One, are supposed to report to their new duty stations on November 1, 2022.

“All the transferred officers should hand over their offices in accordance with Chapter 1, Section F-d of the Public Service Standing Orders,” she said.

The changes have seen Chief Magistrate, James Opio previously at Kasese taking on administrative roles in the Office of the Registrar High Court.

He has been replaced by Chief Magistrate Betty Ajok, who was serving in Dokolo.

Langa stated that two magistrates are taking on the research function in the chamber of the judges. This brings the number of Magistrates Grade One assigned to the chambers of judges to 54.

“The plan is to ensure that all the 93 judges have judicial officers in charge of their research function,” she said.

The Chief Registrar noted that the transfers are part of Judiciary’s ongoing transformational agenda geared towards improving access to justice for all its court users.

Daniel Bwambale, the Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One, who has been at Judicial Training Institute has been transferred to Masaka and Principal Magistrate Grade One Isaac Rukundo has been moved from Nakaseke to Kiboga.

The Grade One Magistrates transferred are Emmanuel Pirimba, Caroline Kyoshabire, Pamela Persis Nanyanzi, Jonathan Tiyo and Marion Mangeni.
