Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu has appealed to security agencies to reign over unauthorised check points by gangs camouflaged in military attire to rob unsuspecting members of the public of their property.

Nakibinge said he has heard several complaints over the matter and that many road users are panicking over it.

“I heard of one incident which happened in Kyengera at 9pm and another one in Bombo in which our people were robbed clean.

We don’t know if it is the economic situation or because of any other reasons but I wish to seek the indulgence of the minister for security and the minister for internal affairs as well as security chiefs to look into it and find ways of solving it before it gets out of hand,” he said.

Flanked by his cousin Prince Daudi Golooba who converted to Islam two weeks ago, Nakibinge pointed out that the gang is involved in setting up unauthorised check points on all major routes leading to the Kampala and it is incumbent on security agencies to crackdown on them before it gets out of hand.

Nakibinge made the appeal during the  Saturday Idd Aduha luncheon at his residence in Kibuli which drew hundreds of Muslims of different status such as Members of Parliament, Muslim professionals, children and the less fortunate persons.

“We are celebrating Idd Aduha in times of economic hardship. These are caused by exogenous factors and we don’t have a solution as of now. All we can say is to appeal to all of you brethren and all Ugandans at large that if you have any income stream, handle it with care and caution,” Nakibinge said.

In June last year, Aziz Ssempala was nabbed by security agencies over staging illegal checkpoints in various villages of Mukono district with the intention of robbing travelers and extorting money from boda-boda riders.

At the time of the arrest, Ssempala was wearing a Local Defense Unit (LDU) uniform and had staged an illegal checkpoint near Kyawambogo trading center in Nakisunga sub-county - allegedly stopping and extorting money from motorcycle riders.

Nakibinge appealed to the Muslim community and Ugandans at large to avoid extravagancy by spending anyhow because a shilling saved is a shilling earned.

“The harsh times are still on because we don’t know when the economic hardship will come to pass. The situation has been exacerbated by the delay of rain, food prices are high and the future is gloomy because the chances are high that food prices are going to increase more and so is inflation.

We pray that you handle your resources with care so that you may be able to have the capacity to soldier on during this difficult time,” Nakibinge said.

Nakibinge also appealed to the Government to be frugal by avoiding overspending and channel resources to the less fortunate groups saying the economic outlook looks gloomy and dark as rains have not come on time which could worsen the economy.

Government has since introduced the Parish Development model to empower the less privileged communities to amplify their fortunes.

Breeding pig is not for Muslims-Supreme Mufti

In the Saturday Idd  Aduha message, the Supreme Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Shaban Galabuzi bemoaned the growing habit of breeding pigs among Muslims in the country.

Galabuzi said Islam prohibits Muslims from breeding pigs and eating pork but some muslims have since defied the divine decree.

"I was somewhere on my tours and I was told that there is a growing habit among Muslims of breeding pigs for economic gains. This is very unfortunate because Islam doesn’t allow it and it is therefore not permissible under Islam because dealing with pigs was unequivocally prohibited by God in the Quran," Galabuzi said.

Galabuzi called for exposure of Muslims breeding or eating pork so that they can desist from the vice.

Galabuzi also warned Muslims to be careful of what they are eating saying there are many anti-Islam food on sale in several supermarkets.

"If you go to supermarkets, don't buy things anyhow because there are so many products laced with pork and alcohol," he said.

Galabuzi also condemned the growing habit of roasting pork at Muslim funerals and urged Imams to take action.

"There is a growing habit by a group of people that have made a habit to roast pork at Muslim funerals, this is not acceptable and I call upon Imams not to just look on as this goes on because it is provocation to the Islamic faith," Galabuzi said.

The Kibuli based Supreme Mufti however said they have no problem for pork to be roasted at non-muslim funerals.

The Supreme Mufti's message was amplified by Sheikh Ishaq Mutengu, who unequivocally said that breeding pig is a big sin in Islam.

"If pig is very worthy, why is it that it is not used in marriage ceremonies," Mutengu said.

The Supreme Mufti has asked Muslims with land to offer it to his office revealing that Kabaka has offered coffee seedlings to boost their financial potential.
