The joint Counter-Terrorism Task teams including the Criminal Military Intelligence (CMI), conducted a raid on another home in Mityana district, where they arrested 16 other terror suspects.

The suspects were arrested from the home of Jimmy Kaiza in Busimbi village, following intelligence reports that the home was suspected of harbouring criminals.

The police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, told journalists at the police’s weekly briefing on Monday (June 20), that security later realized the home was being used as a training facility for the ADF rebel activities.

He noted that during the raid which was carried out on Sunday (June 19), a total of 16 suspects were arrested, and several other items including military attires, military boots, electronic gadgets, and two mobile phones among others were also recovered.

The suspects were transferred to Special Investigations Department (SID) in Kireka where they are being processed for subversive tendencies.

Enanga noted that the team also managed to arrest one of the remnants of the Luwero terror cell identified as Semujju Charles.

The 24-year-old was arrested at the Busega flyover, where he was allegedly stranded.

“He had escaped from Luwero. When the raid was conducted, he was not arrested,” he said.

Semujju is said to have been recruited by the ADF agents in Makerere where he had gone to look for a job.

“He came to Kampala in January 2022 from Lutungu village in Sembabule. So, when he had gone to look for a job in Kikoni-Makerere, he was lured into these subversive camps and later taken to Luwero where he started undergoing training from February up to around June,” he noted.

Last week the joint Counter-Terrorism task team also discovered another suspected terror cell in Kikubajinja zone in Luweero Town Council, where two other suspects linked to the ADF were arrested.

Enanga said they have evidence showing that there are cells that are trying to recruit and radicalize members into the rebel ranks.

“But we are very well prepared, these operations and disruptive activities show that we are in control of what is taking place in the country,” he added.

In November last year, Uganda launched a joint operation Code name “Shuja” with DRC forces in the Eastern Congo to flash out ADF rebels following double attacks in Kampala.
