LIRA - An expectant mother has succumbed to COVID-19 at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

Dr Stephen Obbo, the director of the hospital, confirmed the development saying the mother was brought to the hospital on May 21, 2022 and admitted at midnight.

“She was found unconscious and brought to the hospital by her neighbours,” he said on May 26, 2022.

Obbo said when reviewed, the mother was found with underlying conditions and further testing revealed that she had COVID-19.

The woman died on May 26 in the evening, according to the doctor.

“We believe that her underlying conditions made her predisposed to severe effects of COVID-19 which led to her death,” the director added.

Obbo said though many people have let their guard down in following SOPs, COVID-19 is still among us.

He advised those who are not yet vaccinated to get the dose and those who need the booster dose to go for it.

For long, there had been no death due to COVID-19 at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

However, Obbo says there are many people with COVID-19 and that the challenge is that testing has reduced.
