KAMPALA - Link Bus owner Solomon Nsiimire on Friday, May 20, 2022 confirmed one of its buses plying the Kampala-Fort Portal Highway was attacked and some passengers robbed.

In an exclusive interview with the New Vision, Nsiimire said it had not yet been ascertained how much the passengers had lost.

“Yes, we had an incident in Mityana in the wee hours of Friday morning. These were highway robbers. They intercepted our bus at a section between Mityana and Mubende that was under repair and part of the road had been closed off forcing every car to stop.

Some thugs who were trailing the bus took advantage and entered the bus and stole whatever they could land on and drove off,” Nsiimire said.

He said the driver drove to police and recorded a statement and it had not yet been ascertained what the passengers had lost.

Rachel Kawala, the Wamala Region Police Spokesperson said the incident happened on Friday morning at Bamujungu swamp which is at the border of the Mityana and Kassanda districts.

Kawala said preliminary findings show that the bus Registration number UBG 423G with 55 passengers on board left Bundibugyo last evening at 7 pm and was headed to Kampala.

“Upon reaching Bamujungu swamp, the bus was intercepted by an illegal roadblock of about 10 people allegedly armed with guns and hammers,” Kawala said.

She adds that the passengers were ordered off the bus and robbed of all their property including phones and an unspecified amount of money.

Kawala meanwhile said investigations were ongoing to apprehend the attackers and recover the guns and some of the lost property.

By press time, police sources said they had retrieved CCTV footage of vehicles that were plying that route at the time.
