The former Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly, Dan Kidega, will on Thursday address supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) on the role of students in leadership and progressive politics.

According to the NRM secretary general, Kidega’s lecture also marks the resumption of the weekly party ideological clinics that were put on halt following the death of former Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah.

“By design, our weekly ideological clinics have been on a break. I am delighted to inform you that we shall be hosting Dan Kidega for the 24th ideological clinic at the NRM party headquarters,” he said.

Kidega is also the vice chairperson of the Makerere University Council.

Recently in an interview with Sunday Vision, Todwong said ideological clinics were rolled out to give guidance to supporters on a number of issues, including ideology.

“We realised that many of our leaders in various positions needed more guidance and ideological orientation. Leadership without a proper compass is not good for the community, and our national chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, has always reminded leaders that they are social doctors.”

“So, as social doctors, you need to analyse the challenges of society and prescribe solutions to these challenges. So, for you to be able to do that, you need to have that extra eye, which is backed up by ideological clarity to be able to sieve important things from none important things and concentrate on things that galvanise the majority,” he said.

“So, this is the purpose of the ideological clinics, and indeed it has helped a number of our leaders at all levels. We have even had demands from many people that we should now decentralize the clinics to lower levels, especially to districts and to institutions of higher learning, but we shall come to that at an appropriate time. So, we are moving in the right direction with the ideology clinics,” he added.
