LIRA - A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer collapsed in his bathroom and was rushed to the emergency unit at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Lt. Col. Charles Omara Abeni collapsed at his home in Akia, Lira City East Division. 

The 5th division spokesperson, Nsamba Magango, said: “Our gallant senior officer from service brigade in Magamaga become unconscious at his home while taking a bath.” 

The region’s Police spokesperson, Jimmy Okema, stated that it was not clear what caused Abeni’s death, but noted that they would issue a statement after the postmortem results have been released.
