A fire whose source remains unknown gutted a four rental wooden house in Kalangala Town Council and destroyed property including pupils' material.

The fire started on Sunday morning at around 5 am and residents failed to put it out since there was no fire fighting equipment.

No life was lost in the Kalangala village fire as residents paccused one resident, a smoker to be the source of the inferno.

Ruth Nantongo, a P. 6 pupil, said they didn't manage to save anything including books.

"I have nowhere to start from. My clothes, school books have all been burnt to ashes," she narrated.

She called upon well-wishers to help them out since "we have nothing by now".

Others affected include Nantongo Christine 11, Samson Ssentongo, 6, Musoke Everest adult, Nabateregga Shakira adult, and one only identified as Moses.

The houses belonged to Bosco Mubiru, the LC1 chairman of Kalangala Village who said when he was approached that he had no idea on the cause of this fire.

Despite being a walkable distance to Kalangala Central Police Station, none has come to rescue nor tried to put out this fire.

Kalangala District has no fire fighting brigade that can be used by Police or residents in case of such incidents.
