The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs has asked for sh89b to facilitate the ongoing UPDF operations against the ADF rebels in DR Congo.

While appearing before the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee on Monday, the state minister for defence, Jacob Oboth, said the money is needed to help them fund all necessary operations to neutralize the rebel group.

Grilled by several legislators on why the Uganda government took UPDF before getting authorization from Parliament, Oboth said, “There was a need to surprise, overwhelm and override the enemy. We can take political responsibility for not coming to Parliament because there was a lot of planning and strategic issues that were taking place,” he said.

The Defence ministry was appearing before the committee to present its budget proposals for the next financial year of 2022/2023.
