Kisaka warns KCCA staff over extortion

Kisaka vehemently vowed to take serious punishments against those who will be got red-handed as she continues to advocate for the restoration of trade order in the City.

KAMPALA - The Kampala Capital City Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka, has sounded a big warning to her staff who engage themselves in extortion tendencies while executing their duties.

She said, the practice has crippled the smooth running of the institution in terms of service delivery and has also painted it with a bad image before the members of the public.

She vehemently vowed to take serious punishments against those who will be got red-handed as she continues to advocate for the restoration of trade order in the City.

“We humbly appeal to our people to desist from providing bribes to our staff and at the same time, we request whoever lands on our staff engaging in corruption to at least to tip us,” she said.

She revealed this while addressing the Kikuubo business community on Monday together with the State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs, Kyofatogabye Kabuye, and other KCCA technocrats, during the inspection of the newly constructed Kikuubo lane.

Meanwhile, Minister Kyofatogabye appealed to the Kikuubo business community to avoid displaying their goods outside their shops to keep their area visible and accessible.

He noted that in terms of security, it becomes very risky if Kikuubo remains congested with big crowds and many trucks, yet terror acts are still on and the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

“Vaccination for Covid-19 will soon become a prerequisite for anyone who will need to operate a business in Kikuubo since it is the back born of business in Kampala,” he said.

He blamed the congestion in Kikuubo on some shop owners who sub-rent their doors and verandas to other people moreover selling similar goods, yet President Yoweri Museveni himself warned about this habit before he partially lifted the lockdown.
